First

Today is my first day of work at the middle school…

I’ll write a real post about this later. Wish me luck!

[edit]
Well the first day was very uneventful. I did work on getting some test score stickers put into the cumulative student folders, and I worked on getting the office cleaned up. I started reading the book ‘7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens’ by Sean Covey. His father, Steven Covey, wrote the very popular ‘7 Habits of Highly Effective People’.

I’m not sure what I’ll be doing the next few weeks for actual work. I’m sure soon the computer tech will set up my account and I’ll start learning their computer system. I also have new employee training August 16-18.

We’re under Heat Warning right now. Heat index today is 100. Tomorrow it’s due to be 110, and Wednesday it’s supposed to reach 115. The house is absolutely unbearable, even with the fans running.? I would KILL for AC.

They still haven’t delivered my trash can, so I’m going to have to call them on my lunch break tomorrow. My landlord hasn’t sent anyone about the ant problem, so I’m also going to have to call him back and see if he’s had any luck contacting anyone to take care of it.

Covert Ops

I had a fairly brilliant plan last Sunday night after Jake had left; we had talked about my going to Cary this weekend and we’d discussed Saturday so the cat wouldn’t be alone for too long. Well after I thought about it a bit more, I thought that maybe it’d be nice to have some covert ops.

I planned all week to come up today, but not tell Jake. The plan was to get here early enough to make dinner, tidy up, and then be here waiting when he got home. I managed to keep the secret, and even had Jake fooled into thinking that I had worked half a day today (to explain my absence on line for half the day) and that I was in the midst of planning to come up tomorrow… and that I had sent him a surprise in the mail and that it got here today.

As per my plan, he came straight home after work… and found me waiting on the couch and dinner in the oven. He was very surprised and quite pleased with the surprise.

I’m a master of sneaky goodness. :)

Work Plans

My first day of work will be July 31st… so Monday. I spoke with my boss, Mr. P, for a few minutes this morning. He seemed very excited to have me come in, and gave me directions to the school so i can find it. The directions were a bit vague, and I’m willing to bet I’ll get lost the first time I go out there. I’ll likely drive out this afternoon or tomorrow, just to do a run-through so I know where I’m going.

I’m excited to start, but I’m also very nervous. And that’s about all I can say about that…

Things I Need

There are some things I really need for the apartment. A list to keep myself organized (and to inspire potential housewarming gift givers!):

-Vaccuum or swiffer flick. The living room and one bedroom are carpeted and I really need something to keep those areas neat.
-A large bookshelf (5 shelves preferably)
-A dresser
-Something to hang framed photos without using screws or nails (my landlord doesn’t allow those)
-A real couch. The futon will serve the purpose for awhile… but I’d really like an actual couch.
-A nightstand (any smallish table will do).
-A small AC unit for my bedroom
-A fairly large folding table to use as a desk/craft table
-A frame for my bed. For right now just having it on the ground is fine, but eventually I would like to get it on a frame.
-More hangers
-A small lamp for my living room.
-Airtight containers (for cereal and stuff like that)
-A stand for my microwave (need more counter space, and this is the way to do it).
That’s all I can think of right now. It’ll be awhile before I can afford any of these things by myself, but it’s good to have the list.

Random sidenote: to anyone that was concerned by my having a password protected post? Please don’t be. Sometimes I like to have something I write that’s private… because 90% of what I write isn’t. I’m fine… just needed to vent last night.
