First Day of School

Today is the first day back for students.  It was an exciting morning, full of smiling faces and anxious faces.  The children are adorable, and some of the littler ones are looking around in such wonder.

Highlights of my day:

  • Stepping out into the hallway and finding a first grade class practicing walking in a straight line.  Their teacher introduced them to me and then they all said, “Hello Ms. M!”  It was far too fun telling them what wonderful ‘dragonflies’ (our school mascot) they were being in the hallway.
  • Making a ‘magic wand’ for one of my first lessons in class.  I actually got to go to the art room and say, “Do you have any paper towel rolls?  I need to make a magic wand,” without someone looking at me as if I’d lost my mind.

It’s been a good day.  Hard to believe it’s almost over.  Other accomplishments include:

  • Character Ed lesson plans done up until November.  I still have some tweaking to do on some of them, but otherwise they’re complete.
  • All of my letters/memos regarding EOG testing are done.  I don’t have dates for everything yet, but my master copy is done.
  • Made contact with our sister school’s counselor and got some helpful advice.
  • Completed my ‘Intro to Counselor’ lesson plans.  Hopefully I can get into classrooms this week to do those.
  • Started planning my trip to the North Carolina School Counselors’ Association Fall Conference.
