Small Things

I’m frequently reminded that it’s the very small things that are sometimes the most wonderful.

It got pretty chilly here overnight last night, down to 34.  For North Carolina this is serious business.  This morning I was getting ready to go to work and asked Jake if he could start my car for me when he went out to start his, and he did.  As we were both getting ready to leave he handed me his coat, since mine was in the car.  I said, “What about you, won’t you be cold?” And he told me to take it, because the jeep was all warmed up and he’d be fine.

It’s a small thing, but those are what make the bigger picture so beautiful sometimes.

Photographer

One of my best friends, Monica, is an incredibly talented photographer.  I am constantly amazed by her work, and I think that everyone else who sees it probably is too.

Today I got an email from her announcing the launch of her new website.  You should go take a look at Monica Everdyke Photography.  If you live in New York, I can’t think of anyone better to hire to take some beautiful pictures.

Pumpkin Carving

Tonight Jake and I carved our pumpkins. It was his first time ever carving, and it was my first time ever using one of those patterns that they sell at Target to make your pumpkin look really nifty. We had a really fun night. Jake was grossed out by the smell and texture of the pumpkins, which blows my mind. I can’t even remember the first time I carved a pumpkin, and I think they smell good. It was hilarious to be there to experience it with Jake on his first time. I ended up going out and getting a pumpkin for Merlin… and you’ll see from the pictures that his pumpkin is substantially larger than our pumpkins. What can I say, we love our dog.

If you click on the photo, it should take you to the album in my gallery. Happy Halloween indeed.

Some Lovely Things

I had my first ever classroom observation on Monday.  I was pretty nervous about it, especially considering the class I had wanted my principal to observe me in ended up not working out.   She ended up observing me in a room that had a sub, so that was added nerves.

But the lesson went just as I’d planned it.  I had to wait until yesterday to meet with my boss regarding her thoughts on the lesson, but it was worth waiting for.  The whole thing was praise.  She thought I related well with the kids, that my lesson was well thought out, prepared, and delivered.  It was just a very positive experience.  It definitely puts me at ease for the next time I get observed.  Jake took me out to dinner last night to celebrate my wonderful evaluation, which was incredibly sweet of him.

And Then There was Frisbee

On Saturday after I went to the gym, I stopped in at Petsmart to get Merlin dog food.  He also need a new tug rope**, so I picked one up.  On my way to check out, I saw a bin full of frisbees for .99 cents.  I figured it couldn’t hurt to get it and see if Merlin liked it.

catch.jpg  He absolutely loved it.  I’m not saying he doesn’t love his kong more… because that’s certainly not the case.  He has an unnatural obsession with his kong.  But… he really liked chasing the frisbee.

Of course, I’m horribly uncoordinated when it comes to frisbee.  Merlin would much prefer Jake throws it, but I’m practicing and getting better.  It was quite a good way to spend .99 cents.

**Any family/friends who want to get a gift for Merlin for Xmas?  Tug ropes, the biggest you can find.  If we can stock up on holidays we won’t have to budget in for one every two months or so!
