Dragging

I would like to list for you why this day is going to drag:

  • My family is currently in a car on their way to North Carolina to spend Thanksgiving with us.  It will be the first time Mom, Dad, and Sean have seen my house and met my Merlin mutt.  I am incredibly excited.
  • Today is our last day of school this week.  Oh happy day :)
  • I really, really want to get home and play some Wii.  I realize this is lame, but it’s true.  Last night I beat Guitar Hero III Easy, and I want to practice some more before I move on to Medium.
  • I have some things to do around the house before my family gets here, and I’d like to have it done early.
  • I get the first half of my yearly supplement today.  Woohoo.

It will be a good week, and getting through today will be hard.  I’m a pretty patient person, but sometimes that fades in the face of excitement.

We’ve done a lot of work around the house the last few days, the biggest job being the painting of our office.  We will probably have to put one more coat on it eventually, but it looks fantastic in there already.  I spent an hour last night putting everything back in its place and hanging things up.  I took pictures this morning and I’ll post them later.

Still to get done in the house:

  • Hang up the rest of the photos in the office and our bedroom.
  • Dishes that are in the sink
  • Vacuum the office.
  • Tidy up our bathroom a bit.
  • Febreeze the curtains and furniture.  (We keep things pretty clean, but having a dog does mean that sometimes things smell a little bit like wet pooch).
  • Scrapbook a little bit (if I have time).

I hope everyone has a wonderful week.  I may post here or there, but between family and cooking and trying to get some serious NaNoing in… I will be busy.

7th: Success!

We went on a quest to find a Wii yesterday, and it was wholly unsuccessful. We were told at Toys ‘R Us that they were getting some in “tomorrow” and we could try to stand in line to see if we could get one.

So that’s what we did.

We got up at 6:30 this morning, drove to Toy’s R Us and waited in line. We were 7th in line. At about 8:45 an employee came out and told us that they only had 15 consoles. Which was A-OK, since we were 7th in line.

I bought the console, Jake bought Guitar Hero III, Mario/Sonic Olympics, and Madden ‘08.

We are now taking an hour to play Guitar Hero before we start cleaning and stuff for Thanksgiving. I’m sure we’ll be playing after we’re done too. We’re very excited to have one.

Wii Would Like to Play…

Last night was girls’ night out.  We enjoyed a fabulous dinner at Logan’s Steakhouse, complete with one of us getting very tipsy (and no, it wasn’t me!).  Then we went back to B’s apartment, and my life altering experience took place.

Wii.

I want one.  I need one.  I dreamed of getting one.

It is by far the most fun game system I have ever played.  We did bowling and tennis and golf and boxing, and then… oh then we put in Guitar Hero.  Sweet mother.  I didn’t think it possible for me to be so engrossed in a video game.  But I was.  Holy crap.

I get my supplement on Tuesday at work.  I’m seriously considering buying us an early Christmas gift…

Passed

I’m feeling much better. Thankfully whatever I had wasn’t the flu. It left just as suddenly as it came on. I felt a little bit icky yesterday, but I came to work. By the end of the day I was feeling fine. When Jake came home he made the comment that I was like another person… which I suppose is a good thing. I wouldn’t want to act like hacking-coughing-sneezing-snotty-dying-of-kid-gunk Kate all the time.

Another important thing has passed- the halfway point in my NaNo Novel. I’ve got over 30,000 words, and I think I’ve added a twist that may just get me through to the end. We shall see. I’m feeling a bit of writer’s block coming on, but I’m pushing my way through it. I always get bogged down halfway through the month.

It’s taken a couple of months, but I think that I am also passed the point of teachers being leary of the new counselor. I’ve made some good friendships with several of the other teachers, and received an invite to girls’ night out on Friday. I’m pretty excited, as the ladies who invited me are stellar individuals.

Goals for today:
-33,000 words in NaNo
-Find a 22lb turkey.
-Fold the piles of laundry in the bedroom
-Schedule 4 screeners for kids going through Assistance Team

Germies

Working in a building with 500+ children ages 5-12, you are bound to get sick.  Like I am right now.  It started Sunday, hit me like a mack truck.  Yesterday I lay on the couch, minus the hour or so it took me to drive to Rooms to Go and order two more chairs for our dining room table set.  I came in to work today, but I honestly don’t know how long I’m going to last.  I slept barely at all last night, I ache, and my throat and head are sore.  I just feel lousy.

NaNo has been going well.  You can see a widget in my sidebar here on the website that keeps track of my word count.  I think I’ve actually reached the halfway point, although I haven’t uploaded what I have to the NaNo server.  Maybe I’ll do that later.
