Limits of Spandex

Dear Fitness Clothing Makers:

I would appreciate it if you stopped making spandex clothing in any size above a 14 or 16. I understand that spandex is a somewhat ideal material from which to fashion workout clothes, but I see no reason for anyone that is a size, say 32, to be wearing spandex in public. To be completely honest, I don’t think there’s any reason for anyone that size to be wearing spandex ever.

But I digress.

I think if you stopped making spandex clothing in those sizes, people would stop feeling like they should actually wear spandex when they clearly shouldn’t be. Seriously. I know you make spandex pants in my size, but I would never actually wear them. Not until I drop 3 or 4 sizes. I have the common respect for my fellow man not to expose them to things like this… unfortunately not all of my fellow gym goers have this same respect.

It may also help if you develop a Public Service Announcement that discusses this serious issue. You could save people embarrassment. Most of all you could save people from having some serious emotional scarring after observing things of this nature.

Sincerely,
Kate

Zany Dreams

I have inexplicably weird dreams sometimes. Actually, that’s not entirely accurate. I have inexplicably weird dreams a lot of the time. I’ve had dreams about coworkers, only they work at Michael’s and when I ask for help they refuse… this is weird for several reasons:

  1. The coworker this dream was about is always helpful. She’s absolutely wonderful.
  2. This is a recurring dream. I have it about once a month, if not more.

I’ve had dreams about really good friends being mad at me that were so realistic that I was nervous about talking to them the next day.

My dream last night rates right up there on the weird scale though.

Choke

I went into the game tonight, hopeful, but I knew by the end of the first half that the Packers were on their way to doing what they always do: choking under pressure. They’ve been this way since 1997. They get to a big game and suddenly are unable to convert, complete passes, run the ball… and their quarterback (who I love beyond words) is unable to do anything but throw passes that are a complete waste of air time.

I love the Packers. I have for ten years. I love them still. But I am so pissed off that they let countless opportunities pass them by tonight (I mean, seriously, two friggin’ missed field goal attempts???). I am so pissed off that they had so many ridiculous penalties that a team of their caliber should not have had. I’m pissed off that Brett Favre does what he always does in games like this; he pushed plays that he should not have pushed that led to interceptions (in f’ing overtime no less). It’s frustrating to see a team that is so good 90% of the time choke in the 10% of the time that it really matters.

It was a beautiful season for the Packers. I am incredibly proud of their efforts in regular season. I am psyched that Favre stayed with the team another year, and I hope he returns next year. I am incredibly disappointed that it came to an end this way… in a game that so easily should have been ours. In true Pack fashion, they lost their cool when it mattered most. As a fan, that is hard to see.

I do want to congratulate my Dad… his Giants played a very good game. I’m not happy the Pack lost to them, but I am a gracious loser. The Giants were the better team tonight. Manning kept his cool. Their offense was spot on, and their defense was top notch. Thanks to Dad for not rubbing it in too much ;-) . I’ll be rooting for them with you during the Superbowl. As much as I razz my father’s team, I would root for any team against the Patriots.

So… Go Giants? :)

Unexpected and Appreciated

I was told today by someone I respect and admire a great deal that I should “really consider going back to school to get my degree in administration” and that he thinks I would make “an outstanding principal or assistant principal someday.”

I am flattered and deeply thankful for his feedback.  I really needed to hear things like that today.

A Conversation:

Jake: *walking in holding grilling tongs* If I lose an arm, I want a set of these attached.
Me: …
Jake: I’ll smack people around with my tong hands *snap snap snap of the tongs*
Me: Wow.
Jake: What?!

Tales of the Sickly

I’m sick.  This isn’t so unusual considering I work in a petri dish when you get right down to it.  Children in grades K-3 have no concept of preventing germ spreading.  4th and 5th graders aren’t much better.

However, I had to call in yesterday because I felt so awful… which I’ve only done one other time this year.  I got up, started to get ready, and was so exhausted that I could not fathom going another step.  I called in and went back to sleep until 10am.  I got up, ate some toast, and then slept until 1.  I watched about half hour of ‘Robin Hood’ and then went back to bed until 5.  The only reason I got out of bed was because I knew Jake would be home and dinner would probably be a good idea.

We’re doing quarterly assessments today, tomorrow and Friday so I have to be here.  Today I have an A-Team meeting after school, another reason I have to be here.

Tomorrow there is a “winter weather advisory”, so I’m really hoping we’ll at least be delayed.  That would be nice.

Back to work…
