Better Late Than Never

I just realized that I never wrote about my trip to the farm. My friend Elyssa went with me, which was nice. I was a little bit nervous about going to a new place. We found the farm very easily; there are lots of signs on the road leading up to it… not to mention it’s absolutely huge and hard to miss.

There is a beautiful boarder barn right up front, with lots of fields and a gorgeous schooling ring. There are some great jumps set up out there. Further down is a covered outdoor. All that is to the left when you come in. To the right is a gravel road that leads to the schooling barn, office, and tack shop. There is an outdoor ring, an indoor ring, and several more rings I couldn’t see from the tour. It was a really nice setup. The people were incredibly nice and made me feel at home. I scheduled my evaluation ride for next Tuesday.

After the tour we went to the tack shop and I got a new helmet. It took awhile to find one that was just right. I also made the decision to get a schooling helmet instead of a show helmet for the time being. It saved me about $100, and I thought that it was a smart decision since I most likely won’t be showing for 6-12 months. I got a new pair of chaps (more on this in a moment) that are totally gorgeous. I also got a new pair of all weather gloves that I really need. I got out of there spending far less than I was planning on spending, so that was good.

Now for the chaps. I was fitted for and tried on the chaps before I left the store. They are Ariat Close Contact half chaps, so they’re supposed to fit like “second skin”. I planned to spend the whole weekend breaking them in. I put them on Friday evening when I got home from scrapbook stuff with the girls. I could only get them back on by myself while I was wearing breeches. I put them on again yesterday over jeans, and could feel the pulse in my legs. This is bad, so I took a drive back to the store and exchanged them. The girl that works there (and I) was worried about how they’d fit after I’d worn them a little… and were both right to do so. After wearing them for like 3 hours over jeans, they’re far too big. So I’ll have to go early on Tuesday and try to figure out what to do. It’s an adventure.

I’m really looking forward to Tuesday. Hopefully I don’t look like a complete ass up there :)

WW Weigh in #3

I was somewhat apprehensive about going to my meeting this week.  It was a new group, and I knew I wouldn’t know anyone there.  I was also worried that I might have gained now that I’m back home.

As it turned out, the meeting group was really fantastic.  The leader is very up beat and immediately puts you at ease and gets you excited about WW.  The other members were incredibly nice too.  It was just a nice atmosphere.

My worry about gaining?  Also silly.  I lost…………..

4.2lbs!!!!!!!!!!!!

That brings my total to 6.2lbs.  I got my first 5lb sticker today and everyone celebrated my success.  It was a very good week.

Returning

I began horseback riding when I was eleven years old. I had wanted to ride since probably the first moment I laid eyes on a horse. Nobody was accommodating me, so I got the phone number of an instructor from a friend and called without my Mom’s permission. When she got home I told her that I was taking a riding lesson Saturday.

Merlin Monday #18: Missed Me Edition

Due to delays and cancellations and all kinds of travel drama, I haven’t had a chance to take any new photos of the mutt yet.  However, I do have this picture that was taken over Thanksgiving last year that summarizes (somewhat) the friendship Moose and I share.  He missed me a great deal, or at least he seemed to when he  mauled me Sunday night when I came in.

The feeling is mutual.  It’s really good to be home.

Positives and Negatives

The good things about today:

  • I ate out three times this week, and still lost 1lb according to the scale at Weight Watchers.  I feel like that’s a really big accomplishment, because two of the places I ate didn’t have a WW section on their menu or anything.
  • I got all my scrapbooking stuff shipped to NC
  • I packed neatly and was 100% ready to go.
  • I made a nifty My*Space page for the music Sean and I recorded.  (If you would like the link ask).

The not-so good things about today:

  • We drove all the way to Albany Airport to find out that United could get me to D.C. but that the flight from Dulles to RDU was canceled.
  • I had to rebook on a flight that leaves tomorrow and routes through friggin’ O’Hare.

So I won’t get home now until 4:30 tomorrow evening.  Jake and I had planned to go see the new Batman, but I don’t know if that’s going to happen now.  *sigh*  I just so wanted to be home.  I miss my home.

Hopefully tomorrow goes better.
