Long Way South

Jake left yesterday for his big motorcycle trip.  He’s driving down the east coast and then cutting across to Mississippi.  He’s going to stay with his Dad and Thelma for a bit before meeting up with our friend Brian.  They’ll then travel together to Florida to camp and have fun for a couple days.  Then Jake is going to come back up to NC, but go around through Texas and up through Tennessee and whatnot before coming back into NC.

You can read about his adventure here.   There’s a section that says October 2008 Trip overview in the right hand sidebar.  If you click on that you can access his tracking system to see where he is, or at least where he was the last time he did a check in.  There will be many pictures, and I anticipate getting quite a few postcards (I made him promise to send me one from every state, but we’ll see if that happens!).

Merlin and I are lounging around today.  We spent nearly an hour snuggled up together on the couch, both of us half asleep.  I’ve folded laundry and cleaned out my car, which was on the top of my list of things to get done.  I plan to clean the bathroom later, as well as do a little more laundry on like bedding and things of that nature.  I’m not sure any of those things are going to get done, because I feel like laying around.

I went to a crop yesterday after my WW meeting**.  I got the Biltmore album done, and got almost completely caught up in mine and Jake’s album.  I have some pictures to print from Bikefest to add to our album, and I need to finsh up Merlin’s 2nd year.  I have an album I’m trying to work on for my friend Andrea, but I haven’t been able to afford to do too much with it.  There are also a couple other projects that I want/need to start working on if Christmas is going to happen this year.

The grind starts again tomorrow.  It’ll be a busy week between tutoring L (which I love doing), test make ups, meetings, and a symposium on Friday.  All of these things will keep me busy since Jake is gone.  On one hand it’s really nice to have all this time and all this space.  On the other hand, I really miss him.   Really really.  I woke up at like 3 am and I thought someone was in the house.  It turned out that the dog was just scratching, but my first thought was “EEP Jake!”

When I woke up this morning the dog was laying at the end of the bed on the floor, on the body pillow.  He was clearly keeping a close eye on me throughout the night.

In any case.  I should do something productive.  Or lay on the couch and nap.  Hmm…
