In the Dreaded Month of May

Life is moving in to super sonic mode these days.  The month of May is notoriously the worst month in my work year, thanks to state testing.  I know it’s necessary to assess children, and I know that testing coordination is a part of my job.  That doesn’t mean I have to like that part of my job.  Test coordination interferes with my ability to do the one thing I went to school to do: counsel children.  There are very few months in a school year that are not impacted by the testing program, but May is the absolute worst.  Below you will find a run-down of what May looks like for me:

Fight Like a Girl

Last year my school had a team that walked in the Susan B. Komen Race for a Cure.  I really wanted to walk, but my back was not cooperating with that level of activity.  I was incredibly disappointed, and it was one of the things that really inspired me to join WW; the thought of being unable to do a 3 mile walk without pain was unacceptable to me.

I’m proud to say that I have joined my school’s team this year and will be walking!  The team members even voted for the team name I chose.  Of course, like a lame-o I cannot remember the exact wording of that name.  But it’s super cool. :)

The walk takes place on June 13th, and I’m incredibly excited about it.  Most of you will remember that I participated in the JDRF walk back in November.  This was a really rewarding experience, and one I’m very proud of for a lot of reasons.  For that walk I asked that anyone who could donate, give what they could.

I’d like to ask for your help again.  Please visit my page for the Komen Race for a Cure.  I set my fundraising goal at $150, and I really hope to achieve it.  This walk raises so much money, and it all goes toward research that will hopefully find a cure for Breast Cancer.  Any little bit helps, even $1.

So… fight like a girl, and donate!

Merlin Monday #46: Bend it Like Beckham Edition

Merlin has developed an obsession for having things kicked to him.  It started with his tug rope.  He’d bring it to one of us and wait excitedly for us to kick it.  Then he’d bring it right back and we’d do it again.  And again and again and again.  One night as I was playing the kicking game, it ocurred to me that it might be a good idea to get Merlin a ball of some kind.  It had to be somewhat durable, because he has jaws of steel.  I thought that maybe a soccer ball might do the trick.

Best. Idea. Ever.

He is in lurve with his ball.  He gets it stuck in his mouth, because his teeth go into the material of the ball.  I need to get a smaller ball next time so he’ll be able to handle that better.  Other than that one small thing, it was absolutely a wonderful purchase.  He brings it right back, drops it and gets ready to chase it again.  When we’re done, he brings it inside and drops it in his crate.

Cupcakes and Friends

Last night was my friend Sarah’s housewarming party.  We were all sitting around eating dinner and whatnot.  Lots of laughs and all that.  All of a sudden everyone started to sing Happy Birthday… and I looked up and there were cupcakes and candles!  And they were for me!!

And after the singing there were birthday cards!!

The card from everyone said that everyone wanted to go to the zoo with me… next weekend!!  Bethany and I had been talking about going, because it’s one of the things I really wanted to do for my birthday.  She told me after that she had talked to everyone and they had decided that everyone should go and make sure it was extra fun.

After all that, there’s only one thing left…

I have really, really, really wonderful friends.  Thank you girls, for everything.

I Don’t Like Pickles on My Sandwich

I went to T*aco B*ell tonight to get dinner.  I get the food and come home.  They messed up my part of the order.  It’s soft tacos rather than the fresco soft tacos… so I figure, whatever.  I can eat a regular soft taco.  So I take a few bites.  And there’s a hair in the soft taco.  Hair in my food, unless it’s something that I am responsible for, is a deal breaker.

This was the pickle on the crap sandwich that has been my life this last week.
