Hope is the thing with feathers…

I was awakened at 2:45 this morning by my dog pacing and whining by the windows in my bedroom.  It was very windy outside, and it’s the only thing I noticed that was something to worry about.  Merlin was very worried.  He got up in bed with me and sat as close to me as he could.  He didn’t lay down, he just sat.  Then he would jump down and pace by the windows again.  I finally got up to check the house to be sure everything was OK.  Then I got back in bed.  He didn’t like that and came back up into the bed.  I told him to lay down and he did… on top of me.  Literally.  So I moved and then he moved so he was laying on my legs.  I tried to move my legs and he started to whine.  So I figured there was something he was thinking he needed to protect me from, and I let him.

My alarm went off this morning and I woke up.  Merlin sprawled out next to me, his head on my side.  I’m not sure what he was so concerned with, if it was just the weather or if there was something outside that he could see/hear and I couldn’t.  As inconvenient as it is to have 102 pounds laying on you?  It’s also incredibly comforting knowing that he’s here keeping watch over me as I sleep.
