Green Thumb

Today I decided to finally go to L*owes and buy some plants for the front of the house. Jake had planted some tomatoes and corn earlier this morning, and it got me motivated to do some planting of my own. I got three hydrangea bushes and two lily plants to start with.

These roses are on the left side of the house (as you face it)… we didn’t plant these, but I love them.

Just the hydrangeas

We got a nice soaking rain soon after planting, and they’re looking beautiful. Let’s see if I can keep them alive!

1 Year

I nearly forgot…

But a year ago today we closed on our house

Owning a home has been incredibly wonderful, albeit stressful at times.  I think I’m safe in speaking for Jake when I say that it has been a fantastic part of our lives.

Pranksters

Apparently last night there were some pranksters in our neighborhood. I slept through all of this, but Jake has told me what happened. We have two flowerbeds in our front yard, and they are edged by some large stones. Someone thought it would be funny to move these out and put them in the road. At about 1:30 someone driving down the road hit them. It blew out their front tires and took off their oil pan. I guess the police were here and everything.

I guess Merlin went ballistic when all this was going on. There were flashing lights and noise and all kinds of stuff.

Did I mention I slept through this??

In any case, the stones are being put back in their proper place. Hopefully this doesn’t become a habit. We live in a pretty nice neighborhood, and I didn’t think this kind of thing would be common. I’m hoping that it’s not something that becomes common.

Jake also told me that according to our across the street neighbor, this kind of thing is somewhat common here.  Apparently they’ve had their car broken into a couple of times.  They’ve also had their mailbox broken.  So from now on everything worth money comes out of my car at night.  The bright side is we do have a dog that reacted to all that was going on outside.  This situation does, however, make us more inclined to work on letting Merlin stay out of his crate at night time.

Painting- Master Bath

This weekend we decided to start painting. The master bathroom and the office were most in need, but the master bath won out in things to start first. We’ll soon be starting a homeowners’ blog, but until then I’ll post these pics here!
Before and After:

We are very happy with how it turned out. There’s a little bit of touch-up work to do around the ceiling, and we’re getting new towel bars, but other than that the bathroom is done. It was hard work, but we had a great time doing it. Three cheers for that awful orange-pink color being gone.
