A Bit of Cheer

As was apparent by my previous post, today is kind of a blah day.  Jake left for a 2-week trip.  My computer is being sent back to S*ony to get repaired.  Lots of blahness.

But then I checked my mail and found a special treat from Hollywood.   Over Christmas she had posted pictures of some adorable ornaments she made and said that she would send one to some of her readers if they’d let her know they wanted one.  I was one of the first commenters on that post, and so I was lucky enough to get promised a sweet, hand made surprise.  Unfortunately, my computer is at Best Buy and will soon be on its way to S*ony to get fixed.  So I don’t have a picture of my exact gift, but it looks a bit like this:

Cute?  I think so.   It’s an absolutely adorable, sweet, mousy wonder.  Thank you to Hollywood for sending her to me; it was just the pick me up I needed today.

Oh!  Hollywood has an Etsy, Flaky Friends.  She makes really adorable stuffed creatures of all variety, and I’m in love with them.  Not only is she a wonderful blogger, (go read her!) but her crafts are outstanding.  Buy one for you, and while you’re at it send me one.

Unexpected and Appreciated

I was told today by someone I respect and admire a great deal that I should “really consider going back to school to get my degree in administration” and that he thinks I would make “an outstanding principal or assistant principal someday.”

I am flattered and deeply thankful for his feedback.  I really needed to hear things like that today.

A Conversation:

Jake: *walking in holding grilling tongs* If I lose an arm, I want a set of these attached.
Me: …
Jake: I’ll smack people around with my tong hands *snap snap snap of the tongs*
Me: Wow.
Jake: What?!

Important Monday Business (busyness?)

First off, I want to thank those of you who delurked!  Thanks for making your presence known, and I hope you continue to drop by and say hello occasionally.

Second, how ’bout them Packers??  It was a rocky start, what with Grant’s two fumbles that led to Seahawk TDs.  After that it seemed like the harder it snowed, the better the Pack did.  It was a fun game to watch, and it has me pumped up about out next game vs. the New York Giants.  I’ll admit, although I hate to, that the Giants have had a great season this year.  (Did you read that Dad?  Mark it down on your calendar because it’ll never happen again).  I do not believe, though, that the Giants stand a snowball’s chance in hell of beating Green Bay at home.  No way, no how.  This is exciting, because it immediately leads to the idea that Green Bay has a very good chance of going to the Superbowl this year.  My excitement cannot be put into words!

Third, although perhaps it should’ve been first… Happy 1.11 to Jake.  It’s unbelievable to me that we are so close to two years together.  In one way it seems like I can’t believe it’s been so long… and in others I feel like it’s been such a relatively short time compared to how long we will be together.  It’s been a wonderful nearly-two-years, and I would not trade this man or this life for anything.  So thank you, handsome guy, for all the wonderful times and fantastic awesomeness over the last 1 year and 11 months.  I love you.

A conversation:
Me: Can we have the ‘Imperial Death March’ at our wedding when I go down the aisle?
Jake: Really??  *eyes gleam excitedly*
Me: …No.  *pause*  We could make our entrance at the wedding reception to that.
Jake: Really??
Me: Yup.
Jake: I love you.

Mississippi Christmas

It’s been a good Christmas, other than missing my family a great deal.  I’m not a big holiday person… in fact I really don’t like Christmas at all.  I didn’t realize until this year how much it means to me to be with my family though.  Don’t get me wrong, I have loved being with Jake and his family.  I just missed mine.

We had some dramatics on Christmas Eve.  Jake’s step-mom was nowhere to be found.  His Dad started looking around the house, and as we were looking we heard a little yell.  So we went out the front door, and then could really hear the yelling.  It was Thelma.  She had apparently gone out to the little shed they keep a freezer and fridge in for extra storage to get something.  On her way out she stubbed her toe and lost her balance, falling and hitting her head on the sink.  I got to her first, and she was bleeding from her nose and from her hand.  She was already bruising badly in her chin.  We got her inside, cleaned up enough to see how bad the cut on her hand was, and then Jake and his Dad took her to the hospital.  I stayed home with Thelma’s niece T-Lou and cleaned up from dinner and set stuff cooking for Christmas Day dinner.  Thelma is OK, thank goodness.  She needed four stitches in her finger.  Her chin is horribly bruised and she has a bad black eye as well.

I got lots of lovely presents.  I think I got all the DVDs I asked for from my parents.  Jake got me two others that I’ve really been wanting.  He also got me an IPod.  I couldn’t believe it when I opened it.  He’s been telling me for awhile that he wished he could’ve afforded one… and he had me fooled.  Unfortunately, they sent us the wrong IPod.  They shipped us one with the wrong engraving on the back.  He’s on the phone right now with Apple Customer Service.  They’ve told him they’ll express ship a new one, but now he’s on hold to get some kind of a service number… and he’s been on hold forever.  Hopefully it goes through soon.  We have lots of other stuff to do today, and we’d both like the IPod to be at the house when we get back home.

I hope everyone else had a great Christmas.  It was so nice being with Jake… the first Christmas we’ve spent actually together in the nearly two years we’ve been dating.

Tomorrow we go to New Orleans with Brian and Mary Jo.
