My 100 Things

  1. I was supposed to be a twin.
  2. I was legally adopted by my stepfather when I was in 5th grade.
  3. He became my Dad many years before the actual legal proceeding.
  4. Growing up I was a perpetual pansy.  I didn’t ride my first roller coaster until I was 16.
  5. I am terrified of thunder storms.
  6. If I could choose one skill to have it would be the ability to draw.
  7. I am part Irish and part English… and probably a bunch of other stuff!
  8. I’m a tomboy.
  9. I watch America’s Next Top Model.
  10. I find Anthony Hopkins in his role as Hannibal Lecter incredibly attractive.
  11. I baked professionally, in large scale.
  12. In high school I frequently sang solos and performed on stage.  These days it is a cause for panic.
  13. I have taught myself how to play the piano, flute, and guitar.  I only consider the piano to be something I do “well”.
  14. I have been horseback riding since I was 10 years old.  It is one of my true passions in life.
  15. I am a post thyroidectomy patient.
  16. I want to learn how to dance.  I’m a horrible dancer, and fully intend to take a class to improve my skills (or lack thereof).
  17. I am addicted to post-it notes.  Getting my post-it dispenser was a day of celebration.
  18. I know what it’s like to be homeless.
  19. I am rarely ever barefoot.  I’m prone to foot cramps, and without socks/shoes they come with increasing frequency.
  20. I didn’t get my driver’s license until I was 21, and only then out of necessity.
  21. I used to be so afraid of snakes that even looking at a picture of one made me physically uneasy.  Then I lived with a friend whose son owned one… and I can now say I’ve held a snake!
  22. My parents and I are incredibly close.
  23. I once walked 14 miles to see my best friend… in jail.
  24. I love ladybugs, thanks to my aforementioned friend calling me ‘Katiebug’ from 7th grade until present.
  25. My grandmother was one of the great sources of light in my life.  I miss her terribly every day.
  26. I had a lengthy relationship with an emotionally, psychologically, and sometimes physically abusive man.
  27. I began to write at the age of 12, when a friend requested I write a story about our friendship and love of horses.  ‘The Cotey Stories’ and ‘The Legacy’ series are what came about.
  28. My grandmother and aunt were so excited that I was a girl that they dressed me forever in pink/frilly dresses as a child.
  29. I was called ‘Pinky’ by a member of our church.
  30. I hate pink.
  31. I had a counselor in high school who told me I was too dumb to go to a four year college.
  32. I received my BS in Human Services in 2003.
  33. I received my Masters Degree in 2005.
  34. I am now a school counselor who encourages her students that they can do and be WHATEVER they set their mind to.
  35. At one point I seriously considered studying photography in school, but the other art requirements held me back.
  36. I am now a freelance photographer.
  37. Growing up I wanted a German Shepherd more than life itself.
  38. I got one at age 25!
  39. I traveled to Spain in high school and celebrated my birthday there.
  40. I worked as a hall director for three years at two separate colleges.
  41. I successfully resuscitated three college students who had stopped breathing due to alcohol poisoning.
  42. It’s a good thing I learned CPR, because I needed it again when a woman had a heart attack in the carpool line at the elementary school I work for.  Thankfully, she was also resuscitated thanks to everything falling into place.
  43. I didn’t go on my first official “spring break” trip until I was in graduate school.
  44. I spent 28 years of my life as an atheist.  At age 28 I began going to church, then opened my heart to God, and several months later was baptized.
  45. When I was in high school I was adamant about not wanting children.  Now I hope that I am lucky enough to have them.
  46. The same goes with marriage.
  47. I’m awful at math… in fact it terrifies me.  So much so, that I tend to break out in a cold sweat when I visit 5th grade classrooms when they are working on math.
  48. I love to scrapbook.
  49. I didn’t see any of the original Star Wars Movies until they were re-released.
  50. I know sign language.  Although I’m slightly out of practice my comprehension is still incredibly high.
  51. I got my first tattoo in March of 2007, my second in July 2007, my third November 2007, my fourth in March 2008 and my fifth in August 2011.  I have two more in mind that I want to get.
  52. I own a ridiculous amount of DVDs… over 200.
  53. I collect My Little Ponies.  I have over 200, vintage and the newer ones.
  54. I love to travel.  I want to visit Ireland, England, New Zeland, Australia, the Bahamas and Hawaii.
  55. One of my dreams is to horseback ride on the beach.
  56. I have a severe phobia of public speaking.
  57. I own hundreds of books and love to read.
  58. I have written 6 novels in the last 6 years… 2 of which I have ready to self publish.
  59. I sleep with a pound puppy named Fudd.
  60. I love football.  I’m a die hard Green Bay Packers fan.
  61. I have no piercings.  I tried with my ears in high school, but I was allergic to every metal known to man.
  62. I hate meatloaf.
  63. I never really liked playing video games until Guitar Hero came along.
  64. My Mom and I swam with the dolphins.  It was the most amazing experience of my life.
  65. I have over 5,000 songs on my iPod.
  66. As a child I had an irrational fear that our house was going to catch fire.  I kept my parents awake for weeks at a time, having nightmares and making them re-check the house.  In the spring of 2011, our home did in fact catch on fire.  Thank God, my family was OK.  The house, however, was unsalvageable.
  67. I am scared to be alone.
  68. I have kept a blog on line since 1999.
  69. I took karate for several years before I began horseback riding.
  70. I participate in NaNoWriMo every year and have completed the 50,000 word count all six years I have participated.
  71. Working at a school with a high Hispanic population has taught me two things about my Spanish skills: 1) I understand virtually all of what is being said, and 2) I have no consistent ability to form cogent sentences in Spanish myself!
  72. I got into my first car accident two weeks after getting my driver’s license.
  73. I have no gag reflex.
  74. I wrote my first book when I was 17.
  75. I originally started out as a criminal justice major in college.
  76. I have helped a mare give birth.
  77. I have two herniated disks in my back.
  78. Fashion is completely unimportant to me.  If it’s comfortable I wear it.
  79. I love my job… even on days when I’m frustrated, I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.
  80. I’m afraid of the dark.
  81. And heights.
  82. I hate the movie Wizard of Oz… vehemently.
  83. I work at a therapeutic riding facility, something I once dreamed of when I was in college.
  84. My Uncle Lenny is one of my favorite people on the planet.  He’s like a second dad to me.
  85. I will always call my little brother Kid… even though he is now 21 years old and 6’4″.
  86. I think my heating blanket may just be the best invention ever.
  87. I have sprained both of my ankles about ten times each.
  88. I had never broken a bone until January of 2011.  I fell riding and fractured my scaphoid bone in my right wrist.  As of posting this tidbit of info, it’s June of 2011 and I am still recovering from the injury.
  89. I hope to one day work in a high school.
  90. I am claustrophobic.
  91. My senior capstone was chosen as the best in my department when I was in college.
  92. I turned down a job as the assistant director of residence life at a college in NC.
  93. I miss living in the incredibly rural town that I started out in when I first moved to NC.
  94. If I could have one thing, it would be a horse… and the money to feed it.
  95. I wear a size 9.5-10 shoe.
  96. I tried barrel racing for the first time in 2010… and loved it.
  97. I have begun the process of becoming Parelli certified so I can teach lessons at the therapeutic facility I volunteer at.
  98. I managed the field hockey team in high school.
  99. I love keeping a calendar.
  100. My self-esteem is something I work on every single day.
