My 100 Things

I was supposed to be a twin. When I was born, there was just an infectious birthmark where my twin had failed to grow, attached to my hip.
-
I had emergency surgery right after birth, to save me from the infection.
-
I was legally adopted by my step-father in 5th grade…
-
He became my Dad many years before the adoption.
-
Growing up I was a perpetual pansy, and didn’t go on my first roller coaster until I was about 16.
-
I am terrified of thunderstorms. I don’t know why.
-
If I could choose one skill to have, it would be drawing. I would love to be able to create art that way.
-
I am part Irish and part English… and I’m sure a bunch of other stuff.
-
I’m a tomboy.
-
This includes not wearing make-up, and rarely wearing a dress.
-
I find Anthony Hopkins in his role as ‘Hannibal Lecter’ extremely attractive… perversely so.
-
I set a reminder on my phone during America’s Next Top Model Season.
-
I baked professionally for a summer, in large scale.
-
In high school I frequently sang solos and performed on stage. These days it is cause for panic.
-
I have taught myself how to play the piano, flute, recorder, and the guitar. I only consider the piano to be something I do “well”.
-
I want to learn how to dance… I am a horrible dancer, and fully intend to take a class to improve my skills (or lack thereof).
-
I have been horseback riding since I was 11 years old. There have been hiatuses in it (sometimes over a year), but it is one of my true passions.
-
I am a post-thyroidectomy patient.
-
I am addicted to post-it notes; getting my post-it dispenser was a big deal for me.
-
I met my boyfriend on line… through his mother (also met on line) and my website.
-
I am rarely ever barefoot. I am prone to foot cramps, and without socks or shoes they come with increasing regularity.
-
I didn’t get my driver’s license until I was 21, and only then out of necessity.
-
I am so afraid of snakes that the thought of them makes me physically nauseous.
-
My parents and I are incredibly close; it confounds new and old friends alike.
-
I once walked 14 miles to see my best friend… in jail.
-
I love ladybugs, mostly due to my aforementioned friend calling me ‘Katiebug’ from the 7th grade until the present.
-
I had two imaginary friends when I was growing up, Tammy and Pammy.
-
My grandmother was one of the great sources of light in my life and I miss her terribly.
-
I had a lengthy relationship with an emotionally and psychologically abusive man.
-
I began writing at age 12, when a close friend asked me to make up a story about our friendship and how much we loved horses. ‘The Cotey Stories’ and ‘The Legacy’ are the fruits of that labor.
-
My grandmother and aunt were so excited that they had a granddaughter/niece that they dressed me forever in pinks and frilly dresses as a small child.
-
I was called ‘Pinky’ by a member of our church.
-
I hate pink.
-
I had a counselor in school that told me I was too dumb to go to a four-year college.
-
I got my bachelor of science in human services in 2003.
-
I got my masters degree in 2005.
-
I am now a counselor.

At one point I seriously considered studying photography in school, but was dissuaded by the other art requirements that I knew I couldn’t pass.
-
Growing up I wanted a German Shepherd more than life itself.

16 years later, I have one.
-
I don’t typically get emotional and cry because I’m upset about real-life situations. In fact, I hate crying in front of people.
-
I do, however, cry over books and at movies.
-
I traveled to Spain in high school, and celebrated my birthday there.
-
I worked for three years as a hall director at two different colleges.
-
I have successfully resuscitated three college students who had stopped breathing due to alcohol poisoning.
-
I didn’t go on my first official “Spring Break” trip until graduate school.
-
In my life I have had one friend with benefits, and don’t regret one moment of it.
-
I don’t believe in God.
-
When I was in high school, I was adamant about not wanting children. Now, I look forward to having them.
-
The same goes with marriage.
-
I am awful at math… in fact it terrifies me. So much so that I got panicky walking into the 7th grade math class at my former school.

I’ve become addicted to Sudoku
-
I didn’t see any of the original Star Wars Trilogy until it was re-released.
-
I know sign language… and although I’m slightly out of practice in signing, my comprehension is still very high.

I got my first tattoo in March of 2007, my second in July of 2007, and my third in November of 2007. I will get at least one more. (I have a feeling I’m just going to keep adding…)

I love to be tan… but I’ve never been to a tanning bed.

I own a ridiculous amount of DVDs. Over 200.

I collect My Little Ponies. I have over 200, both vintage and the newer ones that have started to come out within the last few years.

I want to travel more… Ireland, England, Italy, Australia, the Bahamas, and Hawaii are on my list.

One of my dreams is to horseback ride on a beach.
-
I have a severe phobia of public speaking.
-
I own hundreds of books, and love to read.
-
I sleep with a Pound Puppy… unless my boyfriend is around, then I snuggle with him.
-
I would love to get one of my stories published, but am too afraid none of them are “good enough” to risk rejection.
-
I love football. I am a die-hard Green Bay Packers fan.
-
I have no piercings. I tried with my ears in high school, but was allergic to every metal known to man.
-
I only like Jake’s step-mom, Thelma’s, Mashed Potatoes.
-
I hate meatloaf.
-
I have never really liked playing video games.
-
We bought a Wii recently, and I am obsessed with it.
-
Since moving to North Carolina I have discovered that I’m moderately allergic to wasps, terribly allergic to the mosquitoes here, and also terribly allergic to whatever type of spider that has attacked me several times while I sleep.

I want to swim with dolphins one day.

I own over 200 CDs.

I named my new car Kenneth. Dr. Kenneth Noisewater in fact. If you’ve seen the movie ‘Anch*orman’ you get the reference… although not fully. Some things will remain an inside joke forever.

For a long time as a child, I had an irrational fear that our house was going to catch fire. I kept my parents awake for weeks at a time, having nightmares and having them check and double check the house

I am a homeowner.

I designed my first website all by myself, using FrontPage and html.

I have kept a blog on line since 1999.

I like to try to make up different stories every time someone asks me about the scar on my neck, from my thyroidectomy. Favorite stories include a ninja battle, and a shanking.

I took karate for several years growing up, before I began horseback riding.

I have recently begun to take more control over my website, and successfully hacked the code to change things around.
-
I have traveled to Mississippi, almost a year post-Katrina, and can say that it is just as overwhelming and emotionally charged now as it was originally.

I have taken part of National Novel Writing Month for the past three years.
-
All three years, I completed the 50,000 words in 30 days.
-
Since starting at my new school I have realized two things about my Spanish skills: a) I understand virtually all of what is said, and b) I have no consistent ability to form cogent sentences in Spanish myself.
-
I got into my first car accident two weeks after I got my driver’s license.
-
I have no gag reflex. Hard candy and ice cubes are my nemesis.
-
I wrote my first book when I was 17.
-
I originally started out as a criminal justice major in college, but the sheer boredom I suffered in Criminal Justice 101 was enough to send me right out the door.

I have helped a mare give birth.
-
I have two twisted vertebrae in my back, that sometimes slip so far out that they severely compress my sciatic nerve.

I have absolutely no fashion sense. If it’s comfortable I wear it.

I love my job… even on the really bad days. I cannot imagine doing anything else with my life.

I am afraid of the dark.
-
And heights.
-
I am still friends with only three people I went to high school with.
-
I am an ally (read: advocate and supporter of GLBT individuals and issues). In the south, I have found that this isn’t something you readily admit to people unless you’re certain they’re not a Republican.

The only jewelry I wear daily includes my claddagh ring, a hematite ring I got in New Orleans, and a Livestrong bracelet.
-
I hate the movie The Wizard of Oz. Like. Vehemently.
-
I am incredibly insecure, but am working to change that part of myself.
