Sidelines

she watches from the sidelines
aching to belong.
they don’t even see her
their lives carry on.
she wishes she could matter
that someone would care.
wishes never answered
life is so unfair.
her heart is broken up
her mind a battle zone.
she hopes and prays
that she won’t be alone.
prayers are idle pastimes
loneliness her only friend.
she fades into the distance now
against tears she can’t defend.
from the sidelins of the sidelines
she’s fully out of range.
empty handed, broken hearted
wishing things would change.
